Good Gut Gummies
Updated: Aug 3, 2019
Gummies are a great way to sneakily get some gut lovin', probiotic goodness into the kids (and adults) in your family.
Gelatine is packed with protein, collagen and amino acids for immune health, muscle recovery, healthy skin, nails and hair and digestion. We only use gelatine from pasture raised cows that are hormone and antibiotic free.
The addition of probiotic powder is a great way to support optimal gut health, and we use Metagenics Flora Care for Kids. We also include fermented foods/drinks into our diet which house different strains of probiotics to ensure good diversity of gut flora (but thats a Blog post for another day)
I chose Wild Orange and Lemon Essential oils to pair with the Raspberry layer, and even though the amount is small, there are still some therapeutic benefits to be had!**
Wild Orange supports healthy immune function, whilst Lemon provides cleansing and digestive benefits along with respiratory support. Boom.
Raspberry Coconut Gummies
I recommend doubling the ingredients because they will not last!
150g frozen Raspberries, thawed
2tsp raw Honey (or maple syrup makes a great substitute)
1tsp probiotic powder
1 drop each of doTERRA Wild Orange and Lemon Essential Oils
Sprinkle the gelatine over 2tbsps of water and set aside to bloom
Place raspberries and 2tbsp of water into a blender and gently mix to break down the berries. Blending too much will cause the seeds to crush, creating a gritty texture. Strain the mixture well and add to a saucepan (I like to keep half of the seeds and add back to the mixture, but you can leave them out if you like).
Heat the mixture gently until bubbling (but not boiling) and add the gelatine. Stir until fully dissolved. Allow to cool for a few minutes before adding the Honey, Probiotics and Essential Oils.
Pour into moulds until half full and place in the fridge.
Coconut Cream Layer
120ml coconut cream
2tsp raw honey (or maple syrup)
1tbsp powdered Gelatine
1tsp pure Vanilla Extract (or 1/4 tsp Vanilla Powder)
1tsp Probiotic powder
Place the gelatine and 2tbsp of water into a bowl to bloom, whilst heating the coconut cream until bubbling (but not boiling). Add the gelatine and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool for a few minutes before adding the Honey, vanilla and probiotic powder.
Once the raspberry layer has set, pour the cooled coconut cream layer on the top and place back in the fridge.
These will keep in the fridge for at least a week (if you don't eat them all first).
NB. These are not stable at room temperature, so if they're going to school, I recommend placing in a double walled thermos.
**When made into 12 gummies, each one contains the equivalent of 1/8 drop of essential oils (1/4 drop is regarded as safe for children), however you can omit/add more oils as you like.
